Our sex-crazed culture isn’t unique to today. As this passage lists its blunt prohibitions, we quickly see little difference between the carnality of then and now. The commands for sexual purity were not simply good advice, but a matter of loyalty to God (four times we read: “I am the Lord your God”).
Intimacy is part of the created marital union, and anything outside that union introduces pain and confusion into relationships. Both Scripture and experience bear this out.
